Pet-Friendly Glamping at Catgill: Everything You Need to Know
There’s nothing quite like taking your dog on holiday, especially when you’re heading somewhere with miles of countryside to explore.
For most dogs, a trip to the Yorkshire Dales means new smells, exciting walks and plenty of time outdoors. For their owners, it’s a chance to escape the usual routine, enjoy some beautiful scenery and spend a few days relaxing without leaving their four-legged companion behind.
At Catgill Farm, dogs are very much part of the family. We’ve created a welcoming environment for them, with dedicated dog-friendly glamping accommodation, enclosed gardens, a dog walking field and even a warm water dog wash for those particularly muddy adventures.
And with the Bolton Abbey Estate right on our doorstep, there’s plenty to keep both you and your dog entertained throughout your stay.
A Comfortable Stay for You and Your Dog
Finding somewhere that genuinely welcomes dogs can make all the difference when planning a holiday.
Our three dog-friendly glamping pods, the Duck, Stag and Pheasant, are designed to give everyone a comfortable place to relax.
From January 2027, we’ll be welcoming dogs to even more of our accommodation. Our Around the World Pods, including Alpine, Safari and Moroccan, will also be dog-friendly, with enclosed outdoor areas for your four-legged companions to enjoy.
Each pod has its own enclosed garden with fencing measuring 1.1 metres high, giving your dog space to enjoy the fresh air while you sit outside.
Inside, you’ll find cosy accommodation with comfortable beds, heating, a kitchenette and everything you need for a relaxing break. Outside, there’s a private wood fired hot tub, fire pit and beautiful countryside views.
The Duck Pod has something particularly special for four-legged guests. Its dedicated Dog Bunk comes with a comfortable Ivy & Duke dog bed, blanket, treats, bowls and a few extra surprises.
Whether you’re visiting with an energetic young dog or an older companion who prefers a quieter break, our glamping pods offer a lovely place to settle in after a day exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

A Dog’s Eye View of Catgill
If your dog could plan their own holiday, we imagine it would involve plenty of walks, new places to sniff and somewhere comfortable to sleep afterwards.
Fortunately, there’s plenty of that at Catgill.
Our dedicated dog walking field gives dogs somewhere to enjoy some off-lead exercise, while the surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunities to explore together.
It’s a lovely space for dogs to stretch their legs, have a run around and burn off some energy before heading out for a longer countryside walk.
And when they’ve had enough excitement for one day, there’s nothing better than heading back to your accommodation and settling down for a quiet evening.
You might be looking forward to relaxing in the hot tub, while your dog will probably be perfectly happy stretching out nearby after a busy day.
Muddy Paws Are All Part of the Adventure
Anyone who’s spent time walking a dog in the Yorkshire Dales will know that keeping them clean isn’t always easy.
A lovely countryside walk can quickly turn into a muddy adventure, particularly during autumn and winter when the paths are wet.
That’s why we have a warm water dog wash at Catgill, located near the main toilet block by reception.
After a walk, you can give your dog a good wash before heading back to your pod. We also provide towels to help dry them off, which is particularly handy if they’ve managed to find every muddy puddle along the way.
It’s a simple addition, but one that makes travelling with dogs much easier.
Our Reception Shop also stocks dog treats, toys, travel bowls, leads and other useful essentials, so there’s no need to worry if you’ve forgotten something.

Beautiful Walks Around Bolton Abbey
One of the biggest reasons to bring your dog to Catgill is the location.
We’re right on the Bolton Abbey Estate, with beautiful riverside paths, woodland trails and open countryside waiting to be explored.
For a gentle morning walk, you can head towards Bolton Abbey village and continue down to the Priory ruins and the River Wharfe. It’s a lovely place to wander, with plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, Strid Wood offers a beautiful woodland setting with paths following the river. It’s particularly lovely in autumn when the leaves start changing colour.
There are a few things to be aware of when walking around the estate. Dogs must be kept on leads in Strid Wood and certain other areas, while some routes around Barden Moor and Barden Fell don’t permit dogs.
It’s worth planning ahead if you’re heading out for a longer walk, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area.
Our favourite dog walks near Catgill include shorter riverside strolls and longer routes for those who fancy spending more time outdoors.
Dog-Friendly Pubs and Cafés Nearby
After a morning exploring the countryside, there’s nothing better than finding somewhere welcoming for lunch.
Fortunately, there are some lovely dog-friendly places to eat around Bolton Abbey and the surrounding villages.
The Devonshire Arms is a popular choice, with dogs welcome in designated areas of the hotel. It’s a lovely place to stop after exploring Bolton Abbey, particularly if you fancy something a little more substantial.
Abbey Tea Rooms is another handy option for a relaxed lunch or a coffee after a walk.
If you’re happy to venture a little further, The Craven Arms in Appletreewick is a traditional Yorkshire pub that’s popular with walkers and their dogs.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink around Bolton Abbey, whether you’re looking for a country pub, a cosy café or somewhere to enjoy a proper Yorkshire meal.
It’s always worth checking individual dog policies before visiting, particularly if you’re planning to eat indoors.
What Should You Pack for Your Dog?
One of the nice things about our dog-friendly facilities is that we’ve already thought about some of the little extras that make travelling with pets easier.
You’ll find useful items such as dog bowls, beds. blankets, treats, towels and poo bags provided with our dog-friendly pods.
Of course, it’s still worth bringing a few familiar things from home.
Your dog’s usual food, favourite bed or blanket and a couple of toys can help them settle into their new surroundings. A comfortable lead and harness are also useful for exploring the surrounding countryside.
If you’re visiting during the colder months, an extra towel or waterproof dog coat might come in handy too.
And if your dog has a favourite treat they absolutely can’t go without, it’s probably worth packing a few of those as well. Our on-site shop also stocks a selection of delicious dog-friendly treats from the Yorkshire brand Just Ere Fot Treats.
Enjoy a Yorkshire Break Together
A dog-friendly holiday should be enjoyable for everyone, not just the humans.
At Catgill, you can spend your mornings exploring the Yorkshire Dales, stop for lunch at a traditional country pub and return to your glamping pod for a relaxing evening.
Your dog gets plenty of fresh air, exciting walks and somewhere comfortable to rest after a busy day. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the countryside views, private hot tub and everything that makes a glamping break feel special.
And when it’s finally time to head home, there’s a good chance your dog will be fast asleep in the car before you’ve even left Bolton Abbey.
Whether you’re planning a weekend away or a longer countryside escape, Catgill is a lovely place to enjoy some quality time with your four-legged companion.
